Sting Welcome 25 Recruits to Program

The Seneca Sting welcomed twenty-six recruits to the program this evening at the Summer Signing.

Student-athletes representing nine teams signed their commitment letters for the Fall 2016.

Teams represented were Women's Rugby, Men's Basketball, Badminton, Men's Rugby, Women's Soccer, Men's Volleyball, Cross Country Running, Women's Basketball and Men's Baseball.

Women's Rugby
Floritia Avina (Walpole Island) - The 5'3 fullback will be studying Flight Services. Floritia chose Seneca College because of the Flight Services program and because she has a friend who is a member of the Men's Rugby team. Floritia felt that the certificate from Seneca College would allow her to "travel the world for my job."

Katelyn Bigras (Woodstock) - A product of St. Mary's Catholic High School, Katelyn can play 8-man, lock or prop. Standing at 5'7", Katelyn will be studying Flight Services. Katelyn chose Seneca College for both academic and athletic reasons as Seneca College offered both her top program of study and had a Rugby team.

Melissa Cable (Forest) - Melissa will be joining the Sting from St. Patricks Catholic High School. With career aspirations to become an Athletic Therapist, Melissa is getting her career started in Health & Fitness Promotion. At 5'9", Melissa will play 8-man, lock or outside centre.

Men's Basketball
Pearce Buckley (Scarborough) - A 6'2" shooting guard from Blessed Cardinal Newman, Pearce will be entering the Pre-Media Fundamentals program. Pearce is looking to graduate with a diploma and improve his overall basketball skills. Pearce feels that having a Seneca College diploma will help him "achieve my goals of becoming a broadcaster/producer".

Stephen Funais (Toronto) - A 6'0" point guard, Stephen will be studying Fire Protection Engineering. A product of Northern Secondary School, Stephen felt that an education from Seneca College would give him both the qualifications and experience necessary to be successful in his career.

Jerrel Campbell (Maple) - A point guard/shooting guard from Maple High School, Jerrel will be studying in the Business Management program. At 6'0", Jerrel is an explosive athlete who is looking to grow as a person and player at Seneca College.

Cole Crouter (Newmarket) - The Police Foundations student joins the Sting from Orangeville High Prep. At 6'7", the centre chose the Sting because of the coaching staff and for the academic program. Cole will be a strong body in the paint for the red and black.

Molik Young (Toronto) - A 6'3" explosive shooting guard from Jean Vanier, Molik will be entering the General Arts program with the goal of finding a job and having a great career. Molik will bring strength, length and athleticism to the Sting with the potential to be an impact player.

Marcus Hypolite (Toronto) - From Blessed Mother Teresa, the 6'0" shooting guard will be studying Electronic Engineering Technology. Marcus chose Seneca College because he "really liked the facility and the labs (Seneca College) had for my program". Marcus is extremely athletic who loves to attack the basket.

Roshane Richards (Toronto) - Nicknamed "Freshie", the 6'7" power forward joins the Sting from George Harvey Collegiate Institute. Entering the Business program, Roshane is looking forward to "being at the campus and looking at a brighter future". Roshane is well-known in the local basketball community for breaking a rim during a game.

Badminton
Nicky YeMin Aung (Yangon, Myanmar) - A two-time National Champion (Myanmar) and Asian Tour Champion, Nicky will be studying Business Administration (Human Resources). Standing just over six feet, Nicky is a former member of the Myanmar National team and was ranked number one in both Men's Singles and Mixed Doubles in Myanmar and Thailand.


Men's Rugby
Drez Keshane-Wilson (Saskatoon) - A 6'0" prop from Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute, Drez will be entering the Social Work (Immigrants and Refugees) program in the Fall. A member of the TDSB East Junior Regional Champions, location helped land Drez with the Sting as he works towards his career aspirations while also continuing with his rugby career.

Ferdous Hayder (Scarborough) - Ferdous will be studying Fitness & Health Promotion in the Fall. From David & Mary Thomson Collegiate Institute, Ferdous stands at 5'8" and competes on the field in the back row or as a hooker. Ferdous is a member of the Balmy Beach Rugby Club where he was the Bill Webster Athlete of the Year.

Jhavell LaRose (Toronto) - Jhavell is a 5'10" inside centre from Sir Wilfrid Laurier Collegiate Institute. Jhavell was a member of Team Ontario 7s and Team Ontario 15s. Jhavell will be studying Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Dillon Devabalan (Pickering) - Entering the Civil Engineering Technology program, Dillon is a 5'9" prop from Dunbarton High School. Dillon chose Seneca College because of the pathways created to University. Dillon was a member of the OFSAA 7s Champions.

Kyle Spataro (Pickering) - A 5'7" scrum half, Kyle is a product of Dunbarton High School where he was a part of the OFSAA 7s Championship team. Kyle will be studying Electrical Engineering and will be looking to grow as a person while at Seneca College.


Women's Soccer
Aprilyn Covello (Bradford) - A centre back and holding midfielder, Aprilyn joins the Sting from Bradford District High School. A member of the ANB Academy U21 team, Aprilyn will be studying Pre-Health Science and will be looking to get into the "great" Nursing program at Seneca College.

Brianna Lena (Newmarket) - From Sacret Heart Catholic High School, Brianna will by studying Police Foundations. At 5'3", the striker and defender chose Seneca College because it has everything she was looking for in a post-secondary institution. Brianna plays club soccer for ANB Academy.

Haley Pozzo (Keswick) - A Practical Registered Nursing student, Haley stands at 5'11" and is a striker and winger from Keswick High School. Haley is a member of the Aurora U18 (L3) team and Aurora Women's (L1) team. Proximity to home was a major factor in Haley choosing Seneca College.

Nicole Berardi (Markham) - A 5'4" centre midfielder and forward, Nicole will be studying Fitness & Health Promotion in the Fall. Nicole joins the Sting from St. Brother Andre. Nicole will be looking to use her diploma as a gateway to further her studies in Kinesiology.

Men's Volleyball
Avinash Juvarajan (Scarborough) - The 5'10" outside hitter from Woburn Collegiate Institute will be joining the Sting this Fall. Avinash will be studying Police Foundations with the career goal of becoming a Police Officer. Avinash was the Most Valuable Player of Nemesis Sports.


Cross Country Running
Kiran Persaud (Markham) - From Markham District High School, Kiran is a 5'6" long distance runner who will be studying Fitness & Health Promotion. Upon achieving his diploma, Kiran is looking to study Kinesiology with the goal of earning a degree. Kiran was the YRAA Steeplechase Champion this past year.


Women's Basketball
Kelly McIlroy (Toronto) - A power forward and shooting guard from Northview Heights Secondary School, Kelly stands 5'10". A member of the Gladiators Basketball Club, Kelly will be studying Early Childhood Education.

Imani Abukar (Toronto) - Imani will be studying Honours Bachelor Therapeutic Recreation with the goal of becoming a Recreational Therapist. Imani is a 5'9" shooting guard from Harbord Collegiate Institute where she led the team to a championship this past season while losing just one game.


Men's Baseball
Will Van Allen (Kingston) - Will is a pitcher and middle infielder from La Salle Secondary School. Standing 5'9", Will is entering the Purchasing & Supply Management program where he hopes to one day earn a job in logistics or the supply chain field. Will's greatest athletic achievement growing up was hitting a game-winning, two-run home run in series game in Pennsylvania.
