Sting Get Revenge

Sting Get Revenge

The Seneca Sting (17-2) exacted revenge for their first loss of the season, defeating the Centennial Colts (10-9) 70-67. Earlier in November, the Colts defeated the Sting while they were the top ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.

In a heated battled between the two local schools, neither team was able to gain a significant advantage. The Sting led 15-13 at the end of the first half, but the Colts pulled even at halftime 30-30 in a low-scoring affair.

Nabil Ibrahim scored 13 of his game-high 19 points by halftime, helping lead a Sting attack which shot just 12-of-38 (32%) in the first half.

Action picked up after halftime as the the crowd's screams grew louder with every made shot. The third quarter ended in controversy. Following a Sting turnover in the paint, the Colts dribbled to half court and banked a shot in for the long three. The play was questioned as the buzzer sounded before the shot was released, but the clock still showed time prior to the buzzer going off, leading to a clock malfunction as the cause.

As the game wound down and the Colts closing to within two points, Isaiah Ankra showed his poise under the basket, waiting for the defender to go up before drawing contact and making the layup. Ankra converted the three-point play to give the Sting a five-point lead with just over four minutes remaining. Ankra struck again with 45 seconds left, stealing the ball and going end-to-end for a layup to put the Sting up by four.

Isse Ibrahim clinched the victory, capitalizing on a shot attempt which came up short. The fifth year pounced on the rebound and calmly laid it in to put the Sting up by six with 17 seconds remaining. The reaction was priceless for the usually calm Ibrahim, who pumped his fist in the air in his final home regular season game.

The late game play was fitting on senior night as the Sting recognized Nabil Ibrahim, Isse Ibrahim, Ankra and Dimitri Lim prior to the game. Ankra finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals. Isse Ibrahim added 9 points and 5 rebounds while Lim was limited to just one rebound. Daniel Wright added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Kyrin Henlin led the Colts with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Quentin Herbert added 10 points and Edose Etomi added 7 rebounds off the bench.

Neither team shot 40% for the game with the Sting holding a 37.3% to 31.0% advantage. The Sting were just 7-of-17 from the free throw line. The Sting outrebounded the Colts 46-29.
